There are already several reports of accidents coming in from near and far. Sadly, some of which have claimed lives. Depending on where you live/ride in NY we are only a week or two into the 2017/2018 riding season. Some areas like Western NY are still waiting until sundown tonight for their trails to officially open.
I was really hoping that this riding season we could break a record for LEAST amount of snowmobile related accidents and fatalities. Last winter in NY alone there were 28 deaths and numerous other accidents resulting in varying degrees of injuries. The causes of last seasons fatalities were excessive speed, unsafe ice, riding without a helmet and driver inexperience.
Just a basic list of the many things to keep in mind when hitting the trails:
obey speed limits
don’t drive and drive
stay alert and aware of your surroundings
do not ride alone – if you do, let at least one person know of your plans
yield to groomers
slow down when passing opposing traffic
always wear a helmet and dress appropriately for conditions.
Please ride responsibly. Have a safe and memorable riding season and be sure to share your adventures and pictures in the forums here on Sledfreak.com.
